Microdermabrasion causes trauma to your skin

Your questions answered……….

  1. Will having Microdermabrasion thin my skin?

Areas of thick skin will be made thinner; however your skin will also become thicker too, this is due to the increased production of new cells.
It is also important to be aware that the barrier function of your skin (ph balance) will be disrupted in the first 24 hours after having microdermabrasion, causing your skin to be drier than usual; this will disappear after approximately 7 days, leaving your skin more hydrated than before.

  2. I’ve heard there would be long term damage using Microdermabrasion – is this true?

A small amount of trauma is caused to the skin; the trauma causes the skin to repair itself in a more organised fashion.
The lower layers of your skin become thicker. The number and size of fibroblasts, cells that make collagen, are increased. Elastin fibres are increased; this will add a spring back to your skin.
There will be an increase in blood flow to the lower layers of your skin, having a great effect on news cell production.

  3. How will it work on my skin?

Fine crystals sprayed across your skin remove the top layer (the epidermis), and then the crystals and your dead skin cells are vacuumed away! After a course of treatments open pores are less visible, and fine wrinkles appear smoother.
Microdermabrasion works by causing a small amount of trauma to the skin, causing the skin to repair itself in a more organised fashion. This creates younger, healthier looking skin.
